The Turkish Cup loss to Fenerbahce by a score of 3-1 last week marked Istanbulspor’s return to competitive play and forced them to concentrate solely on their fight to stay in the top division.
Prior to the World Cup break, they had dropped six straight league games, and their losing streak increased to seven games when they were defeated 2-1 by Galatasaray on Sunday.
Galatasaray led by two goals in the first half thanks to goals from Bafetimbi Gomis and Mehmet Yesil; despite Istanbulspor’s efforts to close the gap in the 82nd minute, it was too little, too late.
Istanbulspor hasn’t won a league match since October 3, and with seven points separating them from safety, they have a mountain to climb if they want to stay up.
On Wednesday, they will attempt to win for the first time at home in the Turkish Super Lig after drawing once and losing five of their six home games thus far.
Kasimpasa will be hoping to break a losing streak as they are currently only one point above the relegation zone.
After losing to Umraniyespor in the Turkish Cup and then to Sivasspor on Sunday, Kasimpasa has suffered two straight 2-1 losses since returning from the World Cup break.
Mortadha Ben Ouannes cancelled out Dia Saba’s first goal, but Max Gradel scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 65th minute, preventing Kasimpasa from scoring a second equaliser.
In the Turkish Super Lig, Kasimpasa’s losing streak now stands at six games. This was also the seventh straight league game in which they failed to score more than one goal.
The visitors can at least take heart from the fact that, despite having the lowest scoring average in the division, they have gone unbeaten in their last four league away games.
