Real Madrid vs Valencia – Betting Preview

After losing four of their past seven matches in the top division, Real Madrid has taken a significant hit in their bid to win back the La Liga championship.

Los Blancos’ first league match of 2023 ended in a 2-1 loss on the road to Villarreal. That was followed by a straightforward 2-0 triumph over Athletic Bilbao, but last weekend Los Blancos had to settle for a scoreless draw at home against Real Sociedad.

Real Madrid Preview

Currently behind league leaders Barcelona by five points, Carlo Ancelotti’s team might find themselves eight points behind the Catalan giants by the time they take the field on Thursday if they defeat Real Betis on Wednesday.

Real Madrid cannot afford to lose any more games in the second half of the season, but Ancelotti and company are sure they can turn things around by defeating a faltering Valencia team.

The 35-time La Liga winners have also won 11 and drawn five of their previous 16 encounters with Valencia at the Bernabeu.

Valencia Preview

Valencia announced on Monday that head coach Gennaro Gattuso has left the club by mutual consent after only seven months in charge at the Mestalla.

The 45-year-old has left the club after only 22 games in command, which is six fewer than Gary Neville’s brief tenure in 2016 and less than half as many as his predecessor Jose Bordalas.

After the World Cup break, Gattuso only managed to win two of his last eight games across all competitions. He also lost three of his last four league games, including Sunday’s 1-0 away loss to Real Valladolid, which was won in extra time by Cyle Larin. Ultimately, Valencia made the decision to part ways with Gattuso.

Los Che have subsequently slipped to 14th in the La Liga standings and they are one of four teams with 20 points, sitting just one point above the relegation zone, albeit with a game in hand.

Valencia has had a difficult season overall, but their performance away from home in particular has been a huge worry for nearly a year because they have only won three of their previous 16 away games dating back to March 2022.

Total goals over/under

The odds that the total number of goals scored will be over 2.5, stands @ 1.66.

While the odds that the total number of goals will be under 2.5, stands @ 2.44.

And with the attacking talent that the home side has, the market expects them to breeze through Valencia here.
