As Manchester City prepares to face a Southampton team seeking a welcome diversion from their Premier League woes, they move from one cup competition to another in the hopes of winning the EFL Cup for the fifth time under Pep Guardiola.
Nathan Jones’ team is currently last in the standings and three points from safety, so it will be difficult for them to stay in this cup.

Southampton will be attempting to pull off a surprise and advance to the semi-finals for the first time since 2017. Before scheduling the home match against Pep Guardiola’s team, they defeated Cambridge United, Sheffield Wednesday, and Lincoln City.
On Southampton, Guardiola said: “It’s an away game, it’s better to play at home. They are in a difficult position. A new manager.
“We knew with Ralph how we struggled every season. They have changed some patterns and movements, that is normal and we have to adapt and we will try to impose our game and win the game.
“We want to reach the semi final tomorrow.”
